I was watching this interview tonight and something struck me when Mr. Buckley said that he was tired of life. If he was offered a pill that made him 20 years old he said he would not take it--in fact he was almost disgusted by the notion. I was astonished! Being a 32 year old man and listening to an accomplished and wealthy 80 year old, I was perplexed that he would not take the offer. Then I remembered the account of the Garden of Eden. God told Adam not to eat of the Tree of the knowledge of good and evil not the tree of life. It was only after Adam's disobedience and separation from God that God casted Adam from the Garden so that he or Eve would not eat of the tree of life, thus living forever in this fallen state. Then it dawned on me that this action by God was not so much a punishment for disobedience but an action of love. If God allowed Adam to eat the tree of life and live for ever, then Adam would be forever separated from God's presence. This action was so that God, after Adam's death, would one day be in fellowship with
him again. [Gen 3]
Another thought is that that death is a part of human experience and the process of living once again--thank God that Buckley and many other believers have the faith in Christ and the blessed hope to know that through Christ there is everlasting eternal life.
